Neutral Jing.

King Bumi: Listen to me, Aang. There are options in fighting, called jing. It's a choice of how you direct your energy...

Aang: I know! There's positive jing when you're attacking, and negative jing when you're retreating...

King Bumi: ...and neutral jing when you do nothing! Neutral jing is the key to Earthbending. It involves listening and waiting for the right moment to strike.

I do not know about Earthbending, but it's definitely the key to spoon-bending.

Per Avatar: The Last Airbender. S2E18.

1. Earth. Base of the spine. It deals with survival and is blocked by fear.

2. Water. It deals with pleasure and is blocked bu guilt.

3. Fire. Stomach. It deals with willpower and is blocked by shame.

4. Heart. It deals with love and is blocked by grief.

5. Sound. Throat. It deals with truth and is blocked by lies, the ones we tell ourselves.

6. Light. Center of the forehead. It deals with insight and is blocked by illusions, greatest of which is illusion of separation.

7. Thought. Crown of the head. It deals with cosmic energy and is blocked by earthly attachment.

Shame.

"Prince Zuko, pride is not the opposite of shame but its source. True humility is the antidote to shame."

Don't take notes for an answer.

This might be a good name for a section with funny expressions or sayings.
Like "Everyone has a photographic memory. It's just not every one has film."
Or "Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine."
Or "Do not run in front of car - you'll get tired."

Thandie's TED talk.

"The cracks have started to show in our constructed world... We're trying to figure out how to live with each other... Only we are not living with each other - our crazy selves are living with each other and perpetuating an epidemic of disconnection."

"Over time and with practice I try to live more and more with my essence. And if you do that, incredible things happen."

"Simple awareness is where it begins."

Pain.

Pain is deeply misunderstood. Pain is a good thing, a sign of healing. Pain is a message from your body that it is working things out and needs your help.

Liberation from primary life instincts.

"Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen. For my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom is as great. You have no power over me."

Use your memory and your imagination. You can alter the past and prepare for whatever comes in the future. Imagination is your simulation system. Run your test scenarios (from your past or imaginary future) through it and monitor your responses. Alter you model. Be flexible.

"Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water... Be water, my friend."

"When there is freedom from mechanical conditioning, there is simplicity. The classical man is just a bundle of routine, ideas and tradition. If you follow the classical pattern, you are understanding the routine, the tradition, the shadow — you are not understanding yourself."

"There is no such thing as maturity. There is instead an ever-evolving process of maturing. Because when there is a maturity, there is a conclusion and a cessation. That’s the end. That’s when the coffin is closed. You might be deteriorating physically in the long process of aging, but your personal process of daily discovery is ongoing. You continue to learn more and more about yourself every day."

Potter & Voldemort

Voldemort has made self-preservation his life's goal. The primary life instinct is his prison. Harry is on the other hand got the priorities straight. Love is his best defense and offence. Destiny is his burden. So much in common with J.C.

Primary life instincts.

Principle of duality and trinity governs the world. Everything has two sides but really is one from the third point of view. Everything we do is governed by three basic instincts. Two of them you know: self-preservation and self-reproduction. Those instincts are really one, two sides of the same coin. These are our primary life instincts, something we share with animals. They are part of our nature, our guides. But if you let them govern your life they will become your prison. This prison will make us do terrible things: lie, steal and kill. It will drive us to our own destruction. It might also destroy our children and their children as we might unknowingly steal their lives too.

The only way to balance those two instincts is to make them secondary to the third one. The instinct of faith. This third instinct is what makes us human. When everything is gone: our house, our job, our money, our food, our kin. When life is almost but gone from our body, when our mind gives up and our spirit is at its lowest, and our soul is suffering its worst, there is still a flame burning inside telling us that everything happens for a reason, that we will have another chance, that we are loved and not alone. This is our third instinct taking over and making us free. When we are free we love our life, we cry from happiness, we forgive, we are reborn.

Do you like yourself?

If the answer is "No" then let's think about what exactly don't you like. There might be several things: body, character, mind, life. Let's say all the above.

Bad news: they are yours.

Good news: you are not them.

Bad news: you stuck with them.

Good news: you can change them, mold them somewhat to your liking.

Bad news: it will take lots of work.

Good news: you will learn to enjoy the work.

Bad news: you can't make the change your primary goal.

Good news: if you do things right, you won't care.
